Retaining Undergraduates Locally

With SU’s Associate Provost for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bruce Kingma, IA developed the Engagement Fellows to resist brain drain in Central New York and to encourage career pathways for public scholars.

SU’s Engagement Fellows (EF) one-year program supportsĀ  graduating seniors to seek employment in central New York and to incorporate the principle of Scholarship in Action into their professional work. The EF directors identify potential employers and secure tuition remission and mentorship opportunities. The Fellows collectively explore how their many disciplines contribute to the region.

In addition, in 2007-2008, IA received funding from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to create a Hyphenated Artist Series, which explored the many career paths that people with an arts background might pursue.

IA’s current study on Publicly Engaged Scholars explores career aspirations and pathways of graduate students and early-career faculty members.
