Featured Program

Public Scholars of Civic Engagement
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis has inaugurated five innovative faculty positions in their Museum Studies program. Their primary responsibility is to craft relationships and sustainable partnerships with area museums and cultural institutions and to involve undergraduate and graduate students in meaningful ways in those collaborations. The faculty members filling these positions hold joint appointments between Museum Studies and another department, while having direct partnerships with local cultural organizations. For example, the Public Scholar of Native American Representation holds a joint appointment in Anthropology, while partnering with the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. The Public Scholar of Urban Education, in conjunction with the School of Liberal Arts, works with the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The Public Scholars will make contributions to the academic disciplines of their university appointments and to the public functions of their public institution.
