Campus Visits

As a benefit of IA membership, affiliated campuses may invite an IA senior staff or board member to visit their campus for a one- or two-day visit. The visiting scholar/artist waives their usual fee; the host campus covers basic travel, lodging, and food expenses.

The IA visitor responds to specific campus efforts regarding public scholarship and creative practice. For example, the visitor could meet with a tenure and promotion committee to articulate public scholarship in the continuum of research that “counts,” discuss with faculty members and community partners ways of integrating hands-on collaborations curriculum, or convene graduate students who seek to contribute to the public good through their scholarship.

The visit is also an opportunity for more campus constituents to learn about the IA membership and its benefits, and to become informed about national efforts within the engaged scholarship movement. Often the campus-based activities are paired with a Regional Meeting hosted by the campus that initiated the visit. Regional Meetings focus on a major IA research and action area, a topic of proven interest to a broad IA constituency, or a regional conference on public scholarship hosted by a member institution. In such situations, the IA guest additionally facilitates the Regional Meeting.
