Digital Divestment Roundtable: Practical Tips for Harm Reduction

When: July 30, 2026, 10am PST / 11am MT / 12noon CT / 1pm ET

Where: On Zoom

In session 2, our community of practice started to make a personal plan for how we would like to interact with particular platforms, who is part of our communication circle and how we would like to be in touch with different communities, and shared challenges and tips with one another to help us along in our collective journey. This work is ongoing, and IA staff are working on collating these tips and exercises into a practical toolkit so that we can continue to collectively transition into a new relationship with digital technologies, and imagine how we would like to use these tools with informed agency.

In session 3, we will shift from planning work to practical tips! In a session led by PAGE fellow Leah Friedman, we will work on specific tasks related to data security, surveillance, AI features, and platform migration (for data storage, calendars, emails, etc). As always, there will be time for community sharing. Please bring your devices so we can make this a hands-on workshop, and bring your own tips and best practices for safety/sovereignty when navigating digital spaces and platforms.

The Digital Divestment Roundtable is open to the entire IA community, and is hosted by PAGE Fellow Leah Friedman, and IA Communications Director Anuj Vaidya. It invites us to engage in the following questions: what impacts do we see emerging from our digital dependence in contemporary times? How has this integration into all aspects of our communications and education changed our work and increased our reliance? How has it impacted our environment, privacy/sovereignty, creativity/imagination? And where do we go from here?
