David King

Board Member

David King (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, facilitator, and administrator committed to youth development, cultural equity, and creative storytelling. He advocates for sustainable access to and support for the arts and education—championing the dignity of teachers, learners, and arts workers. He is the Director of Education at The Apollo and the former Program Director of School and Community Partnerships at Community-Word Project.

He is a member of Imagining America’s National Advisory Board. He is a Board member and Co-Chair of the Advocacy Committee at the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable. He co-authored a 2020 advocacy campaign entitled “Rebuild, Reconcile, Reimagine: A List of Demands for Centering Black Women’s Leadership in Arts Education,” which was designed to impact pay equity, promotion, healing, and more. 

He is a member of Dance/NYC’s 2023-24 Dance. Workforce. Resilience. (DWR) Initiative Advisory Group. He is a working group member of Culture@3—a space for leaders of NYC’s cultural institutions to connect and share resources and support. Additionally, he is a member of Artists Co-creating Real Equity (ACRE), Creating New Futures, Actors’ Equity Association, and is a former co-founder of The Seven Collective, a NYC-based artist collective. 

David is a participant in the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) 2024 Incubator for Executive Leaders of Color. He is a 2019 Innovative Cultural Advocacy Fellow with The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) and earned a B.A. in Theatre from The City College of New York (CUNY). He was born and raised on ancestral territory of the Munsee Lenape, Canarsie, and Matinecock peoples known as Queens and Brooklyn, NY. He appreciates those who contribute to the process.
