JMU OCP Learning Community

Sound, Sun, Soil, Sea, Story: the learning community of James Madison University’s Office of Creative Propulsion x Imagining America Open Fora collectively created to convey what holds each member.

Creating together felt productive and healing. We discussed ecologically sustainable futures and how we might build towards one. Considering the current extractive materiality, it was sometimes sobering, but overall playful and hopeful. We thought of oneness with one another and our ecologies, sonic and tangible.

Six colored papers with drawings on them are laid out in two rows of three. The top left one is tan colored paper with overlaying sketches in different colors of animals, and plants. The paper to the right of it is red with red marker drawings on it. There are drawings of doors, circles, and speech bubbles with patterns in them. In the bottom right it reads, "sound will save us!!". The paper on the top right is green and has a drawing of a rabbit in a tutu, and a bird, dancing on an open book. The paper in the bottom left is green and has a drawing of a yellow spiral sun in the top left corner with swirls and rays coming off it. There drawing is in yellow, green, blue, and brown pens. The paper next to it is blue and has drawn ocean waves in blue and green. A poem is written in blue across the waves. The paper in the bottom right is orange and has a drawing of a fairy. The shirt and pants of the fairy are blue paper cut out and pasted on. Handwriting on the right reads, "warmth guide me home my clime forgets me cords rester ouvrir i'm on my way , love!".
