A collection of pine cones, leaves, and two dandelions arranged on a slab of rock collected on a walk through my neighborhood.

This project provided me with the opportunity to reflect on different chapters and stages of my life. On my recollection journey, I found a variety of dead leaves from last fall, which book-ended a chapter, having served their purpose for the tree and now prepare to return to the environment. I also found an assortment of pine cones on the walk. To me these represented the hopeful anticipation of new life and a new chapter, preparing to grow and change. This was especially impactful to me because I have been preparing to move across the country after graduating from college. I saw many parallels between my own path and the items I was collecting. As the current chapter of my life is wrapping up, it brings sadness and reflection, with pride for what I have accomplished and the memories I have made. There is also a sense of excitement and anticipation for the new chapter unfolding in front of me. Two dandelions are placed at the center of the composition, one yellow and one white. The yellow dandelion represents the beauty of the moment and serving as a reminder to stop and appreciate the where we currently are. It is easy to either be trapped in the past or find yourself stuck always looking to the future, preventing you from enjoying the present. To underline the fleeting moments of beauty that can be missed, the white dandelion celebrates the temporary nature of the present and the scattering of hope for the future through tiny seeds blowing in the wind.
